BIG firm experience. Small town service.

Shane has been helping insurance policyholders enforce their rights for over twenty years.  He developed a passion for helping policyholder clients while working for personal injury firms in law school.

            After his first year of law school, Shane accepted a position as a law clerk at one of Nevada’s well-known personal injury law firms.  It was during this time that he developed an interest in helping insurance policyholders enforce their rights.  That curiosity developed into a fascination with insurance law after starting his first job as a licensed attorney at an insurance defense firm.  A year later, Shane accepted a position at one of the few remaining large Nevada law firms.  Later, he became a partner at that same firm.  Along the way, Shane was privileged to handle a wide variety of cases from the very beginning through trial, and sometimes, appeal.  Shane was lucky enough to be at one of the few remaining large law firms that give associates full responsibility for their cases.  As such, very early in his career Shane enjoyed the experience of sitting “first chair” at dozens of arbitrations and trials in a wide variety of cases. 

            More recently, Shane had the experience of working at one of Utah’s largest law firms, primarily representing commercial policyholders from policy negotiation and inception, through claims prosecution and litigation.  It was at this firm that Shane also assisted middle market companies as an insurance and risk management advisor in mergers and acquisitions and related transactions.  In these transactions, Shane assisted corporations with negotiating and acquiring Representation & Warranties insurance to manage the risks associated with these complex transactions. 

Ultimately, when that firm joined forces with a global firm which represented insurance companies, Shane turned down a partnership opportunity so he could continue representing policyholders.  As a result, Clayton & Company, PLLC was “born”. 

When he’s not working, Shane likes spending time with his family, dog and on one of his skateboards.
